amazon prime videoAmazon launched its prime services in July this year that offers free one-day and two-day delivery, discounted same-day and scheduled deliveries. And since then there has been a huge amount of interest in Amazon Prime Video, the company’s video on demand streaming service. And starting today the Amazon’s Prime Video service is finally live in India. Amazon Prime Video app is now available for Android and iOS and users can also access the service using their Amazon India login credentials.

Amazon Prime Video service has a wide list of Indian and international TV shows and movies along with Amazon Original Series. Amazon India has already announced its partnership with a lot of local content partners for Prime Video specific TV shows and movies. In the past few months, Amazon India has officially confirmed tie-ups with Dharma Productions and Vishesh Films to stream films and upcoming new releases. Amazon also signed a deal with SS Rajamouli, Graphic India and Arka Mediaworks for an animated series titled – Baahubali: The Lost Legends based on the popular movie Baahubali, which will premiere first on Amazon Prime Video India in 2017.

Amazon India has picked up entire existing libraries of production houses that is likely to give them an edge over Netflix. It poses competition for Netflix as subscribers will have access to the catalog of films and TV shows at an introductory price of ₹499/year. This is expected to go up to ₹999/year later. Meanwhile, Netflix subscription plans start from ₹500 and go up to ₹800/month.
