If you remember Nokia launched the Asha 501 six months ago, and the global launch was here in India. The Asha 501 was the smartphonish feature phone from Nokia with the running latest S40 series mobile operating system and introducing Fastlanes. The Asha 501 features nothing less than a smartphone and gives long battery backup that too with Dual-SIM support. We have our hands-on from the launch event which is attached below.

As promised by Nokia, today Whatsapp has finally arrived on Nokia Asha 501 with a software update available to download. In addition to the Whatsapp, the major software update includes some UI enhancements and performance fixes. More details can be read below.

New Features with the Update:

  • WhatsApp using your 2G or Wi-Fi connection
  • Swipe up on the Lock screen to open the camera and capture an image just by touching anywhere on the camera screen
  • Single swipe to the gallery, and lets you edit your photos directly with a range of new filters and effects
  • Easy share images to your favorite social network
  • Set the default social network to use for one touch sharing
  • Share more than one image at a time via e-mail
  • More closely integrated social networks on the Fastlane
  • Personalize your Fastlane content, configuring which applications can show updates
  • Improved privacy features
  • API for VoIP (Voice over IP) to support internet calling
  • Support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

Availability

The update has started rolling out gradually and shall be available as an OTA (Over-The-Air) in the coming week.
