Facebook’s official Android app received the long waited update ( taking the previous performance into consideration ) yesterday to version 1.9.

The app received some bug fixes and improved performance, which is quite noticeable. Apart from the performance, the messenger app which was available in the store by Facebook (it’s still available), has been integrated within the main app itself, introducing more messenging features like creating group messages and adding friends to existing group conversations.

Adding to this, it has filled the app drawer with two more icons namely messenger and camera, proving the direct screen to messages and instant upload of your clicks to Facebook.

The updated version have no doubt improved from the past, but has still way more to go.

Looking at the alternative for the official app, Friendcaster for Android, provides a very impressive access to Facebook. The app requires intial setup that is you have to grant the permissions to your account and then you can see the change. It is faster, provides C2DC push notifications and allow tweaking the UI. It also sync contacts with their respective Facebook accounts and high-resolution display pictures. Worth a try. It has the ad-free and the normal version available in the Google Play Store.

Coming back to the Official app, will give it 3/5. It should adopt the terms of action from the other alternatives available and make it more productive.
