TIHWDI: Counter Strike 1.6 on Android

A crafty developer named Alibek Omarov had nostalgia for the retro Counter Strike v1.6 and he has cleverly retooled the Counter-Strike 1.6 to Android. He posted the game to Github for anyone with the motivation to go get it. The developer has managed to get all the controls on-screen, right from moving around to firing and refilling the ammo. While the on-screen controls look cluttered, there is an option to customize them too.

Setting up Counter Strike 1.6 on Android was easy and we got it working in no time.

This is how we do it :

1) You’ll need to download and install this Counter Strike 1.6 Android Client APK file from here. There are two APK files here – use the one with omp suffix onfor a smartphone with multi-core chipset, and the one with noomp suffix for smartphones with single-core chipset.

2) Download and install Xash3D Android v0.17.1 APK file.

3) You will need to have Counter-Strike 1.6 in your Steam account to play it on your Android, as you need some files contained therein. Now navigate to Steam directory which by default should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life where you have installed the game and copy these folders – cstrike and valve. Next, paste them in xash folder on your smartphone’s SD card or internal storage. In case you don’t find any folder named “xash” can create a new folder in root directory and rename it to xash. (That’s how I made it work on my device).

4) Run the CS16Client on you smartphone. If all steps are followed correctly, the game should run with ease.

To make the game truly playable, however, you might want to try connecting a Bluetooth keyboard or gamepad. A user has also shared a video on YouTube (embedded below), which shows off the game running on an Android.
