Vivo V5 Plus dual camera setupThe dual camera setup is nothing new and we have been observing this new “Dual Camera lens” setup in almost all smartphones these days. Be it the dual camera module on the LG G5 or iPhone 7 Plus or Huawei P9. Each OEM has made a different implementation of the dual camera module. Some Chinese manufacturers like Coolpad, Xiaomi, and Huawei have tried to bring this rear dual camera setup in the budget price range. Featuring a dual rear camera setup is what all major Chinese OEM’s are eyeing for right now. But Vivo tried to make the dual camera setup game a little more interesting. In the world where everyone is obsessed with taking selfies, Vivo tried to up the selfie game by introducing a dual front camera setup in the Vivo V5 Plus.

What’s the second camera for?

Vivo V5 PlusOne of the two camera’s is a 20MP Sony IMX376 1/2.78″ sensor and the secondary 8MP sensor is purely used to capture depth information. On selecting the wide aperture mode that lets you adjust the aperture from f/16 to as down as f/0.95 for a very stylistic selfie bokeh effect. The dual-lens setup manages to capture a lot of detailing in good light and the added bokeh effect further enhances the selfies you capture.

So how do the two cameras work together?

Both the cameras in the Vivo V5 plus do two different things. Just to recall the Vivo V5 Plus front features a 20-megapixel primary camera with Sony IMX376 sensor and the 8MP auxiliary sensor is purely used to capture depth information which can be taken advantage of using the camera’s wide aperture mode. The wide aperture mode lets you adjust the aperture from f/16 to as down as f/0.95 for a very stylistic bokeh effect. The secondary camera helps in capturing the depth that allows a blur effect to the image’s background digitally. Interestingly the phone stores the image’s original data that can be used later to change the aperture and points of focus even after capturing the shot.

Does it actually take good photos?

Vivo V5 Plus
The dual front camera module on the Vivo V5 Plus is excellent and manages to capture some great looking selfies. The images are sharp and have excellent dynamic range. The dual-lens setup manages to capture a lot of detailing in good light and the added bokeh effect further enhances the selfies you capture. The field of view is pretty wide too so you can accommodate your friends and family within the frame. And to further enhance the selfie experience there is a moonlight selfie flash that can allow capturing bright selfies in low light conditions.
