Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) [Gallery]

Motorola within an year after clearing huge stocks of its bestseller Moto G came out with the next variant, Moto G (2nd Gen) this September. If we talk about what’s new there is actually not much to talk about comparing it with the Moto G (1st Gen). On paper literally five differences that’s it, but with respect to a consumer perspective they might be worthy.

The Second generation upgrade are listed as below:

  • 5-inch HD IPS display over 4.5-inch HD IPS display
  • SD card support

  • 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera over 5MP rear camera and 1.3MP front-facing camera

  • 12,999INR price tag over 13,999INR for 16GB

  • Stereo vs Mono speakers

These personally make the Moto G perfect for me after using the Moto G (1st Gen) for an adequate time period to pass this judgement. We found the screen to be perfect in size and the handset profile ergonomic. The weight though still persists.

This time the front has the loudspeaker featured just like Moto E instead of the back. The new upgrade also comes with stereo speakers instead of mono which were present on the previous generation. There is pretty much same design language being followed with the buttons on the right side and camera and LED flash light at the back above the Motorola logo in the finger-rest. The back is the same hard rubbery finish which is again prone to scratches.

The hardware packed within is the same, powered by Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1GB RAM and 1.2GHz Quad-core processor. Even the battery capacity is the same 2070mAh. Obviously running with the latest Android operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat (for now) it shall be soon updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop as and when the official update comes out. Priced at Rs. 12,999 for 16GB internal storage it feels like a device to buy with a solid build and decent hardware to play with. We shall be testing the handset as our daily driver for the next few days and will report the results in the detailed review soon.
