The number of people using a smartphone in India is growing by a large sum daily without any doubt. Also, most of these people have been using their phones in their native languages. In fact, Amazon India said that the introduction of Hindi language in its websites and apps has been proven to be working great for the customers. And that’s the string Amazon pulled and worked on. Taking on the numbers that only 10% of the Indian population knows English pretty well, Amazon’s digital personal assistant Alexa now speaks Hindi.

Yes, at an event today, Amazon India announced that Alexa will now support Hindi which is spoken by at least half the Indian population. Amazon India says that they are looking to expand and provide Alexa’s services to more people and how it has brought several challenges regarding the language during its implementation.

Regarding the same, Amazon says that Alexa offers over 30,000 skills covering various aspects including cricket, education, and movies. From what we already know, Alexa is available through its smart speakers, the Echo Dot, Echo Plus, and more. Apart from that, there are other devices from iBall, Sony, and LG that support Alexa.

About the roll-out, Amazon India said that it will start to roll out through a software update and will only support Hindi apart from English for now. They are also planning on adding more languages so that everyone in the family can interact in their comfortable language. So, Alexa users can now talk to Alexa in Hindi and it will be able to respond back in the same language.
