Amazon Prime Video is Now Available on Android TV

Everyone is aware of the tug-of-war between Amazon, Apple, and Google, and recently this war has gained dimensions. It all started in 2015 when Amazon said it would ban sales of Apple TV and Google Chromecast streaming devices on its store. In response to this, Google announced that they are ending support for YouTube from the Fire TV and the Echo Show. However, Amazon seems willing to put aside is differences and revered this course of action last week and brought the Prime Video app to the Apple TV and now Amazon has brought Amazon Prime Video to Android TV devices.

The Google Play Store listing of Amazon Prime Video app was earlier only exclusive to NVIDIA Shield TV as part of a limited-time licensing deal. And now the app is available for all Android TV devices. It might be possible the app is not yet listed on your Android TV device and at the time of writing, we couldn’t find the app on Play store for Android TV. It’s possible that the app went live a little prematurely, or that there’s an issue with the device compatibility list.

The existence of Prime Video for Android TV on the Play Store is a step in the right direction. The move comes shortly after the retailer decided to start selling Google Chromecast and Apple TV. While the things have started to ease up a bit, but Amazon has yet to bring Chromecast support to its Prime Video apps for Android and iOS devices.
