Apple Watch Nike Plus Edition: Nike’s reward for letting the Fuelband die

Alongside the Apple Watch Series 2, Apple has announced a brand new collaboration with Nike. We remember the days when Nike produced the FuelBand, back in 2012. It was a product that many see as the pioneer in the fitness wearable space. Nike pioneered that idea of getting points (Fuel Points) for workouts and comparing them with friends. Nike and Apple have a long history working together. And today Apple and Nike together have announced the Apple Watch Nike+. Taking design cues from the Nike Fuelband, the Apple Watch Nike Plus Edition Apple Watch is essentially a cosmetic change over the regular Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch Nike Plus Edition has identical specs to the new Apple Watch Series 2 but opts for a redesigned band. The Apple Watch Nike+ offers a different set of sweat-resistant fluoroelastomer bands. It also has run-tracking functionality that’s far more advanced than the ones in the Watch’s regular Exercise app. Apple Watch Nike+, like all Apple Watch Series 2 models, features built-in GPS to track pace, distance and route, so users can run without an iPhone.

Apple Watch Nike+ will be available in two different aluminum case sizes, 38 mm and 42 mm and pairs with four exclusive Nike Sport Band color combinations including Black/Volt, Black/Cool Gray, Flat Silver/White and Flat Silver/Volt. Apple Watch Nike+ will be available in 38 mm at $369 (US) and in 42mm at $399 (US) from apple.com, Nike.com, Apple Stores, select Nike retail stores, select Apple Authorized Resellers and select specialty stores and department stores.
