Apple Watch Series 4 officially announced with ECG. Starts at $399

Apple’s first announcement of the day, Apple Watch Series 4 has been finally unveiled. Apple Watch Series 4 is definitely an advancement from the Series 3 with new features and the biggest addition of ECG on a smartwatch for the first time ever.

The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with a bigger better display which has been designed to even look more like a traditional watch. Apple claims it to be 30% bigger than the Series 3. Apple Watch OS has been tweaked for the new Series 4 utilising the bigger screen size and new watch that look good.

The digital crown now includes haptic feedback and most importantly, this smartwatch comes with ceramic back which brings the ECG support. Series 4 brings new health capabilities, with a new accelerometer and gyroscope, which can detect hard falls. There is an electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the new ECG app. It can also identify if the heart is beating in a normal pattern or whether there are signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition that could lead to major health complications. All recordings, their associated classifications and any noted symptoms are stored in the Health app in a PDF that can be shared with physicians.


The Apple Watch Series 4 GPS edition starts at $399 (₹28,686 approx.), the Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) starts at $499 (₹35,875 approx.) and will be available in gold stainless steel along with silver and space black stainless steel models. Apple Watch Series 4 GPS edition will be available to order from September 14th in 26 countries and territories and Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) will be available to order in 16 countries and territories excluding India for now. Apple has also announced that Series 3 will be available at the new starting price of $279 (₹20,058 approx.)
