LINE – the instant messenger and calling application by a Japanese software firm, NHN corporation which officially launched in India on 1st July 2013 this year as we reported earlier. Within just 3 weeks from its launch the company is proud to reach 5 million registered users on LINE from India making it the fastest growing applications in the country.
LINE made its arrival through a brand marketing campaign which includes television advertisements encouraging users to install and use the application atleast once. The television campaign has been a success as the Indian youth segment has shown interest in LINE’s stickers and voice calling features.
LINE was launched on June 23, 2011 as a communication service during the time of an earthquake to provide reach to across multiple devices and network carriers. It achieved 150 million users worldwide on April 30, 2013 within a mere 23 months after its release, and has recently announced that numbers have exceed 200 million worldwide on July 21 2013 showing a rapid growth in the last six months.
The number is still on the rise in East Asia, where LINE has already established a strong hold. The graph also shows new user numbers in India, Philippines in Asia, Spain in Europe, and Brazil, Mexico, Columbia, Argentina and Peru in South America.
Android application of LINE has exceeded 100 million downloads from Google Play on July 18, 2013 being one of the 26 apps available on Google Play which have managed to pass the 100 million download checkpoint out of which 12 of these are services and apps are by third party developers that is not developed by Google.
LINE aims to improve the infrastructure and services of the application to get more and more features built-in which might attract more users to the application. As they are expanding in different countries one of their aims is to localizing the Official Accounts and stickers based on the culture of each country and region.
