The BlackBerry App World has topped three billion downloads since it hit the market back in 2009. Alec Saunders, VP Developer Relations at RIM has announced that the BlackBerry App World has crossed 3 billion app downloads across the Playbook and other BlackBerry devices. Yes we know the number is quite small compared to the two giants Apple and Google but still it is an impressive feat for RIM.
The numbers suggest that the downloads have seen rapid growth in the last six months or so as it has just taken 176 days to reach the third billion compared to 210 for the second and 786 days for the first. The rate of downloads is two-and-a-half-million downloads per day. The three billion app downloads include only apps or other stuff downloaded from the App World and not from third party stores or directly from the web.
