Here is a reason for Microsoft to celebrate, based on the latest data from Net Applications, IE6 (Internet Explorer version 6) usage in the US has now officially dropped below 1% ! You would be wondering why shall Microsoft celebrate decline of it’s product, right ?
The company launched its IE6 Countdown site in March last year to help accelerate the death of the aging browser which appeared to have worked in Austria, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and now in the United States too, who all reported less than one percent usage of IE6. Worldwide usage is at 7.7 percent, down from 12 percent at the launch of IE6 Countdown.
However, despite of Microsoft’s continuous efforts, IE8 and IE9 usage has also been declining over the year but they are still able to keep up for the first position in the league, some credit to the fact that they are bundled with Windows by default.
The data states that it is still not clear where are the masses moving out to after leaving IE6. The death of IE6 gives users to look for alternatives for their browsing needs in spite of sticking to the outdated browser. The firm sent T-shirts and mug to demonstrate its happy to lay IE6. We wish good luck to Microsoft with Internet Explorer, because they certainly need have a lot of catching to do !
