News: Web-based, multimedia eBook creation offered by Red Staple Books with DRM-free for $29!

Red Staple is launching its new eBook space its a new HTML5 authoring tool.Red Staple’s product offers various interesting alternative features making it more it more attractive to independent authors. The tool offered by Red Staple is web-based and makes available two different types of eBooks:

  1. Standard ePub 2 books
  2. Books that include audio and video embeds based on the upcoming ePub 3 format.

The site allows authors to create books for free by signing up at the Red Staple site, it starts adding cost when you attempt to export your books at $29 for books under 500 pages with standard ePub format and $99 for books with a higher number of pages or including multimedia content. An option of adding audio and video will also be updated by the end of the  week.

The question that comes to one’s mind is why should one prefer Red Staple when iBooks Author is avaiable to us for free? There are a few reasons that will give you a clearer outlook. Red Staple will export to a standard ePub format in comparison to iBooks  which will only export to PDF, text, or the proprietary iBooks format. This will make it easier to submit the eBook at any store like, Kindle, Nook, Google Books and even for private distribution. On top of that, Red Staple’s eBooks are not based oin a DRM of any kind, and works equally well on a PC or a Mac. Finally, Red Staple books also work on the iPhone which makes it a tough competition for Apple’s iBooks Author.

Lori Jordan, CEO of the website shed some light on the new tool which is expected to be made available on 8th February. The tool includes a simple process of uploading Word files and then cleaning them up once imported into the tool. All formatting has to be done beforehand, as this tool does  not give room for serious text editing or formatting. You can however add links, videos and audio to your uploaded text and perform basic layout tweaks.

You can export to ePub 3 to add multimedia to your books.
