Square Enix reported in their blog this last week about a possible security breach in one of their servers which holds customer account data from users in Japan and the US.
The company has responded swiftly to the breach and suspended their online services as of 10PM PST on Monday, December twelfth. While the full extent of the breach is still being assessed, Square Enix put out an update to let users know that it was able to determine that no user account login credentials were accessed. It also said that there was little evidence to suggest that any personal information at all was accessed.
This news comes as the latest intrusion in this year’s security breach epidemic. High profile companies have come under fire this year as various groups have tried to exploit weaknesses in their security systems. Luckily, in this instance, it appears that all will be well, so Square Enix’s tech team can have a merry Christmas.
