Looks like the year of thunderbolt to me. Just a while back Western Digital gave an early glimpse of its My Book Thunderbolt Duo pair of external hard drives during a press event, yet to be announced officially. The “Duo” as you must wonder implies that the device contain 2 HDDs of 2TB each (for 4TB) and 2 HDDs of 3TB each (for 6TB).
The My Book Thunderbolt Duo supports Mac as for now, but sooner or later, WD in collaboration with Intel will roll-out firmware updates to supports PCs once windows thunderbolt users are in significant number. During the press release, the test was done linking four Duo’s together, making it a whooping 24 Terabytes. The average writing speed during the test was 450MBps and read speed was around 900MBps. Prices and release date are not revealed yet, expected to be unveiled at MacWorld later.
