Cyanogen OS 13.1: the MOD Ready update Released For The OnePlus One

Cyanogen’s relationship with OnePlus has been rocky, however that hasn’t stopped it from releasing new versions of Cyanogen OS for the handset. Back in February, Cyanogen announced the MOD platform, a way for developers to customise the Cyanogen OS experience with deeper-level integration into the framework of the operating system.

So what are these mods? In simple terms, they are various third-party app features, baked right into the OS itself, in appropriate location for easy and convenient access. The Cyanogen team describes it as the post-app era and we have to admit some of the concepts do sound incredibly useful.
For Example there are Cortana and Twitter Mods for the lock screen, allowing you view trending Tweets or the latest reminders, appointments, and other details from Cortana without unlocking your phone. A Skype mod integrates VOIP into the dialer app, along with Skype contacts clearly marked in the phone’s contacts app. The Cortana mod also has new voice controls including “take a selfie” and options to set reminders or check appointments with your voice. And there’s a OneNote mod that allows you to take notes from any app by accessing OneNote from a Quick Settings tile. There’s also a Microsoft Hyperlapse mod that helps you create time-laps videos using the default camera app.

Cyanogen OS 13.1 update (ZNH2KAS1KN) with mods for the OnePlus One is now gradually rolling out over-the-air (OTA). The update also includes June Android security update. The update is available for the OnePlus One right now, but it’s rolling out in stages, as most Android updates tend to do. If you don’t want to wait, you can always flash it yourself by heading over to the OnePlus forums. Currently, Cyanogen OS 13.1 seems to be out only for the OnePlus One, but if you are on one of the other devices officially supported by the OS, you should be eligible for the update soon as well.
