Dolby Laboratories latest innovation, Dolby Atmos which is the latest audio technology has finally reached in Indian Cinemas. Starting May 1, 2014 Delite Cinemas which is situated in Daryaganj, Delhi will be the first cinema in the city to come equipped with this latest audio technology.
Dolby Atmos is the audio technology which holds the potential of sound in storytelling by giving filmmakers the creative freedom to easily place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre to create a lifelike, virtual reality of sound and the most powerful cinema experience ever. Unlike the channel-based sound system which requires the film makers to get prior knowledge of number and placement of speakers, Dolby Atmos is absolutely free from this dependency.
As per our experience, we observed a fair difference. The output was much improved creating a virtual reality of sound which as an end result makes the visuals effective.
Some big hits like Life of Pi, Brave, and Star Trek: Into Darkness have already been made with Atmos to serve the purpose. The first hall to come with this technology was the Sathyam multiplex in Chennai. Though this is the first screen in Delhi to feature Dolby Atmos, India has several others as well mostly in South India including PVR Juhu in Mumbai.
