About two years ago, Facebook started asking its users directly for feedback on the content they see in their News Feed. This allowed Facebook to understand and improve what type of content should be displayed in a user’s News Feed. The company now goes further and asks specific questions in these surveys, such as, for example, the level of inspiration of a post or the interest of a particular user in a certain topic.
Facebook already uses many settings and factors to decide what a user will see in their News Feed. However, there are still issues in this regard that Facebook is trying to address by collecting more specific feedback from users.
One of the feedbacks Facebook has requested is about the impact of the News Feed. These reviews are collected from all over the world, and posts that are considered inspiring are likely to appear at the top of the news feed.
For example, Facebook will start asking users how many posts they make on a particular topic. The content of the news feed is then tailored to the topics they have written about, for example, sports, politics, or cooking. At the same time, Facebook also wants to reduce posts in users’ News Feed that provoke negative reactions, such as anger.
Finally, Facebook will soon make it easier to hide a particular post in the News Feed by introducing a simple X button in the top right corner of the post. When a user hides a post, they are less likely to see similar posts in their News Feed in the future.
