Hotstar Launches Premium Subscriptions , Offers Same Day TV Broadcasts of US TV Shows

Content streaming service Hotstar that is known for its local content streaming including the daily soap operas, reality show for free but supported by advertising, has now announced a premium service that will begin with the premiere of the most popular TV shows on this planet- “Game Of Thrones, Season 6“. The show will become available to premium subscribers all over India ‘Minutes After America’ and ‘Unspoiled’. As the show runs till 10pm EDT, that relates to a 7:30am IST starting time for Game of Thrones fans in India and similar can be the case with Silicon Valley Season 3. With Hotstar premium, one would be gaining access to US TV shows and movies at a subscription fee of ₹199/month. But if you are not fully convinced then there is a one-month free trial you can sign up for but that requires you to sign up and punch in your credit card details. Hotstar says the shows on its service are ‘unspoiled’ (or uncensored), so that’s another positive.

A total of 36 shows are listed in its Premium TV show catalogue, notable names include Silicon Valley, Vinyl, and The Newsroom. The movie catalogue however, is not so exciting, with a list of around 70 Hollywood movies, the latest are from 2015. Star India has further sweetened the deal by announcing that it would also be bundling the premium package with simulcasting of live sports and shows from its network.

Hotstar works over apps, available on Android and iOS, and also on the desktop, through a Web browser. This membership is currently available only in India, and the service only accepts credit cards as a mode of payment as of now.
