At the end of the CES 2021 press conference, LG teased its “LG Rollable” mobile phone with the tagline “More to Explore”. It shows a phone with a sliding design, which the company teased by unveiling the WING swivel screen last September. This follows rumors that LG will launch its mobile phone, codenamed Project B, in early 2021.
LG only showed the phone for a few seconds without revealing any other details. In 2019, LG filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) with the design of a smartphone with a flexible screen that can be rolled up into its own housing on the sides.
Announcing the details of the LG Wing, the company said the goal of the Explorer project is to explore and breathe new life into untapped areas, as well as transform and enhance the current user experience through its trusted platform partners, adding that it is only focusing on new equipment that opens up with innovative design solutions.
The LG Rollable will likely be part of the Explorer project, so chances are it might be the same end product as the WING. TCL has already tested the concept last year and OPPO unveiled the OPPO X 2021 phone concept with an expandable OLED display a few months ago at INNO Day.
