Microsoft officially acquires Nokia, renames as Microsoft Mobile

Nokia Microsoft deal finally comes to an end. April 25, 2014 the day when Microsoft completed the acquisition of Nokia Device and Services Business and renames it as Microsoft Mobile. The acquisition is now official after being approved by Nokia shareholders and by governmental regulatory agencies around the world.

Bringing two multi national organizations together as one team will help them understand the hardware better innovating products more rapidly. Former Nokia President and CEO will now serve as the VP of Microsoft Devices Group expanding the domain from Nokia mobile phones to Xbox hardware, Surface, Perceptive Pixel (PPI) products, and accessories.

The mobile capabilities and assets they bring will advance our transformation,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. “Together with our partners, we remain focused on delivering innovation more rapidly in our mobile-first, cloud-first world.”

Microsoft aims to deliver new value and opportunity working closely with Windows Phone platform which according to IDC is the fastest growing mobile platform with 91 percent gain year-over-year. Microsoft will now also target the affordable mobile devices market having a $50 billion annual opportunity for the billion people purchasing it around the globe.

As announced previously, Microsoft will not acquire the factory in Masan, South Korea, and the factory in Chennai, India. They will stay with Nokia due to the tax liens on Nokia’s assets in India that prevent transfer. As a result, Microsoft will welcome approximately 25,000 transferring employees from 130 sites across 50 countries worldwide.
