There have been persistent rumors that Acer is quitting the smartphone and tablet market because of the poor performance of the devices in both categories. The company’s founder Stan Shih yesterday dispelled the rumor stating Acer would be sticking to smartphones and tablets and will persist with its efforts to break through into both markets.
Shih attributed the rumors to the reorganization taking place within Acer to give a boost to its mobile product development, Shih said they have no plans to abandon the market right now but instead they plan to concentrate on fewer devices with emphasis given to profitability. He also indicated that Acer will be uniting its smartphone and tablet division into a single division sighting the similarity between them, and he feels that Acer will ultimately find success after the struggle just as they did when they entered the laptop market.
Acer has had a tough time in the over competitive smartphone and tablet market but let’s see if Acer can turn this around this year.
