Have you ever wanted more Twitter followers than Lady Gaga? Twitter plugin Fame may now make that dream come true. After connecting to the service, Fame will automatically enter the user in a draw made once a day. By default, each use gets one ticker per drawing, but inviting friends to join can earn extras. If a user wins the raffle, everyone else signed up will follow the user automatically for 24 hours, after which the user will be unfollowed by the other participants. However, people can freely follow that particular user if they want to once it’s done.
Fame’s goal is to sign up 21 million people. That means, each winner would overtake Lady Gaga as the most followed person on Twitter, albeit for 24 hours. As of now, tomorrow’s winner will get 900 followers, but the contest has been running for less than a week. BuzzFeed has called the system a “tidy critique of the Twitter celebrity complex”, pointing out the complete pointless practice of following celebrity microblogs.
But hey, there are people who would like to be followed on Twitter by completely random people, aren’t there?
