As Om Malik at GigaOM rightly says, Google Drive is like the wolf in the fable, The Boy Who Cried Wolf. It’s been rumored to launch again and again, since 2006, but it never shows up, nor do any concrete details leak out. Until now, that is.
According to his sources, GDrive will be launching in the 1st week of April. Although, knowing Google’s history regarding Google Drive, it is never sure whether this is actually true or not, Google might just delay it at the last minute for another time.
Google has provided Cloud Storage, in the form of Google Photos, Google Docs, and GMail, if it can be counted. Even YouTube counts as a video locker, to an extent, if you keep your videos private. According to the details, Google will offer 1GB of free storage space, but will charge for more storage. Dropbox is the current leader, which offers 2GB of space for free. Although one can easily get more space by inviting people, or by dubious methods or with a new HTC phone, although the free space in this case expires after a fixed duration.
The Web Interface for Google Drive will look similar to Google Docs, and interestingly it will also launch for the Apps customers and will be domain specific as well. Google has also built an API allowing 3rd party apps to integrate with this service, so that people can store content from other sources as well.
