Codenamed ‘Hawley Creek’, the 20GB Intel 313 SSD was supposed to launch in Q4 2011, but obviously it has been delayed. It is now rumored to launch alongside Ivy Bridge and the new 7-series chipsets.
The 313 series is a direct successor of the entry level 311 series SSD, codenamed ‘Larson Creek’, also a 20GB SSD. The major change between the two is a switch to a 25nm SLC NAND, as well as availability of a 24GB model. Head over to AnandTech to read a detailed comparison between the 313 series and the 311 series. The performance of the 313 series is expected to be similar or slightly better than the older 311 series, and the suggested pricing is $99 for the 20GB, and $119 for the 24GB model. It’s a $10 drop from the previous models.
If you are looking to buy a low capacity entry level Intel 313 Series SSD, do wait for Ivy Bridge as there is widespread support for SRT (Smart Response Technology), which should help with performance.
