LG Optimus Vu is of course not a great name for a device, but LG’s naming has gone haywire from quite some time now, anyways LG has not been doing well in the handheld arena, their only hit was the Optimus one and then the 2X was not a major hit. This they are unveiling a new 5.3″ device which will be competing with the Samsung Galaxy Note.
I have no idea why LG is bringing out this device, because the people buying huge phones/tablets like Note are not much, the consumers are more niche who prefer large devices, and it has not been doing well in many countries where it has been released (excluding U.S). I really can’t understand what LG is really planning, they haven’t had any success in the mid range smartphone arena and are directly experimenting with their product line.
Well, looking at the device, the spec sheet looks quite sturdy with a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor (I guess it’s the MSM 8260 which can be found on the Sensation XE), XGA resolution (768 x 1024), 1GB RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera and a 2080 mAh batter which is pretty low compared to Note’s 2500 mAh battery, and these kind of huge device require more battery backup. Well there is another sad story, it will be coming with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be later updated to Android 4.0. LG is really not doing great, at least they could have loaded Android 4.0 before it goes out for sale. The people in Korea will be first to get this device by March and the details of the device being available in other countries will be announced at MWC.
