Jetstar flight, JQ57, had to abort it’s landing in Singapore on May 27, 2010 because the captain was preoccupied with his phone after receiving several texts, instead of doing what he was supposed to; fly the plane.
After switching off the autopilot to prepare for its landing the co-pilot noticed that the captain was busy on his phone instead of lowering the landing gear. At just 150m above the ground, too late to lower the landing gear, the co-pilot lifted the plane back up into the air, saving the hundreds of people on board.
It’s illegal to operate a motor vehicle pretty much everywhere in the world, never mind an aeroplane, it’s safe to say he’ll lose his license and I’m sure he’ll be tried for almost killing all the crew and passengers due to his negligence, but how stupid can a person be?
