News: Nikon D800 and D800E now official, come with massive 36MP Full-Frame Sensor

The Nikon D800 rumors turned out to be true, the Japanese company has made official the DSLR camera, which comes with a whopping 36.3MP resolution image sensor, the highest resolution sensor to be installed in a full-frame digital camera. Nikon also launched a more expensive model of the same DSLR, the D800E with its anti-aliasing filter removed.

Both snappers house a 36.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor, a 91,000pixel RGB Matrix Metering System and much more. The D800 and D800E can capture those ultra-crisp photos thanks to its full-frame CMOS sensor, which Nikon calls FX format. “Full frame” means the image sensor is the same size as a frame of 35mm film — significantly larger than a typical APS-C sensor in a normal DSLR. It boasts a new image processor called the Expeed 3 which will tune its performance with the huge number of pixels.

The new high-res image sensor installed in the D800 forced Nikon to limit the noise sensitivity of its full-frame DSLR to ISO 6400 (25,600 in Hi2 extended mode), but otherwise the D800 adopts many of the features of the D4 like features including the Advanced Scene Recognition System with 91k-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering III, 51 point AF, 1080/30p HD video shooting, uncompressed HDMI output, and the special two-shot HDR mode.

The D800 will be available in March for $3,000, followed by the D800E in April for $3,300.

Even though I’m not a pro photographer it makes me drool for those awesome features. Are you a photographer, do tell us in comments what you think of this amazing DSLR ?
