Sandia Labs, the defense laboratory of US Government, has recently developed a bullet which can hit targets up to a mile away due to a self- guidance system within the bullet. This bullet has impressive accuracy and incorporates a lot of technology in its tiny, four-inch-long body. It incorporates an optical sensor on its nose, which is used to detect a laser-guided sight, a set of little actuators which steer the bullet using fins at the end of the casing, and an 8-bit central processing core. This bullet doesn’t even require an inertial measuring unit!
In comparison to regular bullets, Sandia’s new bullet’s fins allow it to fly and hit the target like a dart, making it not only more accurate but also improving the range of the shot. Interestingly, this bullet becomes more accurate the farther it travels because of its active correction and its setting in the air over time. It’s capable of correcting its trajectory over 30 times a second, at a speed of 1600 mph using only the conventional gunpowder. This bullet will be used by military, law enforcement, and hobby shooters once its produced .
