News: SITA and Orange Show Off NFC-Based Airport Check-ins

We all hate airports for the stress it gives with all its check-ins and all, but Orange Business Services and air transport research lab, SITA, have decided to lesson our stress and problems. They have developed an NFC-based check-in solution which they say would integrate NFC into mobile SIM cards to get you through the airport more smoothly, meaning phones without NFC can also use the tech. This enables airport plebes to check-in, get through security, board planes, and even enter lounges with just a wave of your phone. The data is written directly to the SIM card, which will work even if the phone is powered off.

Its surely a great start to bring the use of NFC in real-life use but its just a start and as The Verge notes SITA is owned by the aviation industry, so there’s a good chance that anything we see developed in its labs will eventually be deployed at the airports it helps manage.
