Recently, canonical announced the multi-device future for Ubuntu – ‘Ubuntu for Android’. It is a parallel pairing of an Android and Ubuntu operating system on a single device.
When the smartphone is not connected to a dock it behaves as a usual Android, but when connected to the monitor using a dock it launches into a fully fledged Ubuntu desktop running Unity.
Both operating systems share the same kernel so there’s not an issue of who’s gonna be the primary or secondary. Both run on the same device at the same time resulting in an efficient workflow.
Data and settings are shared between the operating systems ie: one can see the text messages in the messaging menu, search through contacts using the contact lens and answer to calls using unity. ‘Ubuntu for Android’ transforms the high-end smartphones to an efficient PC when needed.
