News: US Airways expanding WiFi services to 90% of its domestic fleet

US Airways has partnered with in flight WiFi provider Gogo to expand the service to 90% of the its domestic fleet. WiFi will be added on the airline’s Airbus A319, A320 and Embraer 190 aircraft, as well as the Embraer 170 and 175 used under US Airways Express. The additions are expected to begin this summer, and all of the Airbus planes will be outfitted with Gogo’s latest air-to-ground technology, ATG-4, which it claims will ‘significantly increase the date rate for the service.

Using the WiFi network, one will also get access to Gogo’s Vision streaming service to watch movies and TV shows and plaay games. However, the cost for these services is separate to the cost of the WiFi, with content ranging from $0.99 to $5.99, however it allows for the content to be watched 24 to 72 hours after landing. While in-flight WiFi has been slow to catch on due to high prices and limited availability, the continued expansion will help increase usage.
