Pebble watch may get updates by Developer Group Rebble

Fitbit has announced that the software and service support of Pebble Smartwatches will die at the end of this month. Fitbit, who bought Pebble back in 2016 has recently updated their decisions on Pebble. However, an open unofficial community Rebble has offered to take the responsibility of providing support and updates.

Rebble is offering to help and save the Pebble community. They’ll provide regular apps service through their servers and the watch can still have a long run. Rebble has asked the Pebble users to join their community and create an account on their website before the end of June. They’re also contacting several app developers to link their account to Rebble’s community.

It is great that the open developer community is offering help to revive the Pebble smartwatches, but the main question here is, how well they’ll go with it? The transfer for authorization can also change the behavior and performance of the apps. From the timeline created by Rebble, it shows that they’ll update it in every 15 minutes rather than updating immediately.

Also, the project is unofficial so they’ll surely need funding. Most of the services will generate a cost. They can also ask some fee for several free apps and features of Pebble. They may also ask for a small donation in exchange for the services. We’re not sure about anything but the chances are there.

Despite the negatives, the positivity is that Pebble will still run. The Rebble services are not yet started but Pebble users can join them by creating an account on their website or by clicking here.
