Google is testing a new google-made ‘entertainment device’ that uses WiFi to connect to home electronics at their employees’ homes. The company requested permission to test around 250 such experimental devices in four different cities from mid-January to July 2012 according to an FCC filing in December. The users of this new device will connect their device to home WiFi networks and also use Bluetooth to connect to other home electronics equipment.
Android@Home was another device announced last year that would connect home appiances like washing machines and lights to the smartphones. The new Google device is rumored to be similar to Android@Home. Still being in the “Prototype phase” this test will run for a long time and changes will be made adequately. This device is not expected to be announced anytime soon!
