Apple’s all new feature in iOS 5 is the split keyboard. The company finally introduced this feature, which is meant to make thumb typing easier in potrait and landscape mode alike. This feature comes along with an option to “undock” the keyboard, allowing it to be placed in the middle of the screen. Another almost hidden feature that came along with the split keyboard are the “phantom keys.”
With this feature, while in split mode, you can type Y, H, and B with your left thumb reaching across to the dead black space next to the keys T, G, and V. The same feature can be applied for the keys on the right side of the split keyboard. This feature was discovered by ‘Finer Things in Tech,’ and though it may seem like a funny feature, smartphone users are often seen reaching out their thumbs to the center of the keyboard .
