News: Singapore Carriers to Sell iPhone 4S without Camera

The camera in the iPhone 4S is one of the selling points of the device, but according to reports, Singapore’s carriers may soon be offering the iPhone with its camera module removed.According to reports from CNET Asia , Telco M1 featured a camera-free iPhone 4S on its site this past Thursday — the 32GB model came in at S$679 with a 2-year contract — but they were pulled out from the site later. The carrier hopes to sell the iPhone to military personnel prohibited from carrying cameras with them due to security reasons.

Singapore’s Defense Ministry, Mindef, is said to have recently issued guidelines on the use of smartphones by soldiers and military personnel, according to which soldiers need  to provide a certificate proving their phone has its camera removed by the carrier. The M1’s modified iPhone without a camera 32GB device cost S$49 more than the standard iPhone which is rather surprising.
