Nokia showed off their Windows Phone flagship, the Nokia Lumia 900, made for the US exclusively, and it took away several awards at the CES which we think it truly deserved. The device showed that Nokia wants to enter the North American market with a bang. Nokia Lumia 900 maintained the superior hardware of Lumia 800/N9 that we love so much with a bigger 4.3” ClearBlack Amoled display, and the RGB matrix instead of the Pentile one makes the display even more beautiful. The specs left out from the Lumia 800 were added in it too. Windows Phone on a single-core 1.4 GHz chip will make sure everything runs beautifully smooth. It also has LTE support for superb fast data speeds. We really hope this device makes an appearance at the global scene as well.
It seems Sony too has decided, like Nokia, to enter the lucrative US market with a bang. Sony introduced its first phone without the Ericsson name, Sony Xperia Ion. It features a huge 4.66” of HD resolution Reality display with Sony’s Bravia Engine which makes the display even more beautiful. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with Gingerbread on it but we all know we might soon see the Ice Cream Sandwich update. It has a 12 MP camera, which Sony claims can takes shots in 1.5 seconds with full HD recording capability, and, seeing Sony’s track record in cameras, we can surely expect an amazing camera sensor. It too has LTE support.
HTC Titan was not even 6 months old but it seems HTC decided that its time to step up the camera game with its 16 MP camera. Yes, you read that right 16 MP camera on a phone. It was a pleasant surprise of sorts, because HTC has been failing to excite us with their phones, and, although we can’t really tell how good the camera is with the megapixels count, the camera samples show that it will be one capable camera phone. The other specs are pretty much the same with LTE support, the same huge 4.7-inch LCD screen and a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor that should run Windows Phone buttery smooth.
Although Huawei is not known for its high-end handsets, we saw some really exciting devices by them at CES. Their flagship model is the Huawei Ascend P1 S, which is the world’s thinnest smartphone with an amazing 6.68 mm thin waistline. It is not only the measurements doing the talking, the 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED screen, dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, and 1 GB RAM make the device more impressive. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Scream Sandwich, unlike most of its competition at the show, which ran Gingerbread in most of the cases making us commend Huawei.
The Droid 4 officially got launched at CES by Motorola after months of waiting. Although the Droid 4’s hardware takes a queue from the Motorola Droid Razr, but we don’t really mind that as the slide out Qwerty keypad is one of the best we’ve seen utilizing edge backlit keys and great tactile feedback. The Qwerty molds beautifully with the slim profile the device maintains, and the heavy texters would love it. But that’s not all; the device features a 4” qHD Super Amoled display, and, under the hood, the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM will keep Android snappy throughout.
