Nokia has surpassed anyone’s expectations as it has just announced the Nokia 808 PureView with a whopping 41 MP carl zeiss camera, yes you herad it right, fourty-one.
The 808 has a 4-inch screen with nHD (640 x 360) resolution and features a more ergonomically-minded case, rounding its edges and offering a softer, grippier surface. The key specs include 512MB of RAM and a 1.3GHz single-core SoC and 16 GB of internal storage. It runs the same old Symbian Nokia Belle but no one’s complaining seeing that huge sensor.
Now coming to what the phone is getting the attention for, its camera, it does 1080p video, but for stills it scales down to 36MP for 16:9 format. The 41 Megapixels allow zooming without losing any detail and it uses Nokia Rich Recording. The camera UI has instant sharing options. There’s a Xenon flash in this thing along with an LED light for use while recording video.
It also comes with Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.
Nokia says it’s 2.5x larger than the sensor in the Nokia N8, which has held the title of “best camera phone on the market” since it started shipping back in October 2010. In order to fit that sensor inside the PureView, the device obviously has to be a bit beefier. We’re talking 13.9 mm at the thinnest point and a whopping 17.95 mm at the thickest point.
Nokia’s Jo Harlow said at the press event that “People will inevitably focus on the 41 megapixel sensor, but the real quantum leap is how the pixels are used to deliver breath-taking image quality at any resolution and the freedom it provides to choose the story you want to tell.”
The device will be available in May for EUR 450 off-contract (about $600). So how many of you are getting one ?
