News: Nokia grabs Smarterphone to make Feature phones more advanced

Nokia has Windows Phone as its primary OS, Symbian for midrange and Symbian and Series 40 combined for low end feature phones, plus there have been rumors of Maemo and Meego based Meltemi in works. If this wasn’t enough, the Finnish company has purchased Norwegian company Smarterphone, creator of an operating system that brings smartphone-like features to basic cellphones.

The acquisition has been reported by previous owner Ferd Capital of Smarterphone and has took place in November last year, though neither Nokia nor Smarterphone have given any public indication of what they might be doing with the software while it seems they would be integrating it to either Meltemi or Symbian to use them in developing markets.
