News: Nokia sold 4.4 Million Lumias during the fourth quarter of 2012

Nokia today released some interesting sales figures from the fourth quarter of 2012, beating their own expectations, but still underperforming.

Although detailed results are only expected on January 24, Nokia has made available some results from last quarter showing that they sold 6.6 million smartphones in total, 4,4 million of which were Windows Phone devices. Lumia sales increased by 1.5 million units from the previous quarter, a let down if you consider that it was the first quarter that Windows Phone 8 devices were available, there were quite a few different models in quite a few countries, not to mention the devices being sold out almost everywhere it was available.

The 4.4 million Lumias also did not specify how many were of the highly discounted Windows Phone 7.5 variants such as the Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900. This quarter is expected to look better as their low cost Windows Phone 8 device, the Lumia 620, starts emerging.

Windows Phone is also expected to face tough competition from BlackBerry 10 which is slated for a January 30th release. More details to become available on the 24th of January.
