Samsung launches Z1 its first Tizen phone at Rs 5,700

Samsung at an event in New Delhi have launched Z1 the first smartphone powered by Tizen operating system in India. This is not a new operating system for Samsung ,they have also tried their luck with ‘Bada’ OS in the past. Samsung has been working on Tizen Operating system from last 2 Years to reduce its dependency on Google’s Android operating system, which powers most of its smartphones and tablets. Samsung is already using the Tizen OS on Samsung NX300M Camera and Gear smart watches.

The device is aggressively priced at INR 5700 and will give competition to the smartphones from Xiaomi and Motorola in the same budget friendly category.

The Z1 features a 4-inch WVGA display on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The device sports a 3.1MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera and a 1500mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 7 hours of video playback and 8 hours of talk time. The device also features an ‘ultra power saving mode’ which can extract more juice out of the battery.

According to Samsung the Tizen OS is very light and it requires much less Memory and processor. Samsung also claims that the Tizen App Store is fast growing and many top rated apps from Android are available to download on Tizen App Store.

The Z1 also features a private mode to keep sensitive data secure and also the device comes preloaded with antivirus. Another amazing feature of this device is that users can access the webpages offline and the inbuilt maps application can also work in offline mode.

Samsung has also launched a free entertainment package called ‘Joy Box’ which gives users access to music, live TV and movies. Users can stream and download from over 270,000 songs and watch over 80 live TV channels. All these services will be provided free to Z1 customers free of cost for 3 months.
Consumers buying the device will get free 500 MB of 3G data every month for six months from Reliance Communications and Aircel.

The device will be available in 3 color options Red, Black and white. The device will be available at retail outlets starting 14 December 2015.
