With the advents of thinner smartphones, Xiaomi the chinese smartphone manufacturer has planned a slim profile smartphone dubbed as Mi2A. SABIC’s innovative plastic business has made Xiaomi select three of its materials to develop a smartphone that is thin, compact and lightweight to keep pace with growing consumer demands.
Xiaomi selected SABIC’s LNP™ THERMOCOMP™ compound, LNP THERMOCOMP LDS and LEXAN™EXL resin to create a smartphone that met complex technical specifications without sacrificing design and aesthetic appeal, allowing it to stand apart from the competition.
SABIC’s new grade of LNPTM THERMOCOMPTM compound, along with SABIC’s LNP THERMOCOMP LDS, was used by Xiaomi to create a unique smartphone frame, which has strength, stiffness and impact resistance, as well as the integrated antenna. This reduces the size of the smartphone device and eliminates the secondary process of incorporating a separate antenna into the phone which in turn helps the customer to reduce assembly time and cost. Additionally, SABIC’S LEXANTM EXL resin has been selected to give smartphone some rich, jewel-toned colors at the back.
These materials make high quality components which makes the device lightweight yet powerful at an lower product cost.
