Are you Football fan? Would you like to attend a FIFA World Cup 2014 match in Brazil? Beware there are fraud campaigns already spreading out in the wild.
Symantec has spotted a football fenzy campaign which is actually a fraud to exploit the enthusiasm of viewers across the globe, for their benefit. The scam emails probe receipts to click on embedded malicious links which have been sent on behalf of local credit and debit card providers in Brazil in favour of FIFA 2014 World Cup. Emails have been sent on behalf of local banking service providers announcing lucrative contests rewards or to register for the matches by paying less, for e.g., “To promote World Cup 2014, you must register to compete for prizes worth 20 thousand Reais – on behalf of CIELO – a Brazilian credit and debit card operator”. Symantec has reported the complete incident with screenshots in their blog post on symantec.com/connect/blog
We along with Symantec would suggest you to beware of such scam emails which have the potential to attack people targetting their interest and curiosity. Do read the blog post by Syamntec for more details.
