Telegram CEO and founder Pavel Durov announced on his blog that Telegram has added 25 million new users worldwide in the last 72 hours alone. In the first week of January, it surpassed 500 million monthly active users. This new increase is due to an update to WhatsApp’s privacy policy, which the company later clarified after people responded. Several users have switched to Telegram and Signal.
Telegram reports that of its new users from around the world, 38% are from Asia, 27% from Europe, 21% from Latin America, and 8% from the Middle East and North Africa.
