Uber introduces the new Uber Lite App in India

Uber has launched Uber Lite in India which is a slimmed version of the main Uber app. The new lite version is just of 5MB with several new features. The original Uber app takes almost 145MB after installation. These changes are to offer maximum usability to the users with simple android phones and limited data plans. The app is designed especially for low-end devices including the Android Oreo Go Edition devices. The app is said to work well even if you are having a 2G network and lets you book your ride in four taps.

Uber Lite offers 300 milliseconds of response time making the booking process faster than ever. With the new interface, the lite app offers quick booking even with slower connections. The Lite version has changed the services inside the app but kept the core features like in-app support and the ability to share trip details with families/friends.

Uber Lite also features new features like

  • Guided pickups: It guides users through the request experience by detecting their current location. If it can’t detect your location because of GPS or network issues, it will surface popular pickup points nearby.
  • Tap over type: Uber Lite makes picking your destination as easy as a tap of a button. The app caches the city’s top places so that even when you are offline. And it learns where you go most often and surfacing those options for you to tap first.
  • Maps only when you want them: To keep the app light and fast, maps in Uber Lite are optional, but available with just a tap if you want them.

Uber has announced that the Uber Lite beta app will be available for users of Delhi, Jaipur, and Hyderabad. The global version will roll out later. The users can also register for that from Uber India Website or from here.
