WD introduces next-gen storage devices and the all new My Cloud OS

WD one of the largest computer hard disk drive manufacturers in the world has introduced few enhancements to their family of My Cloud storage that makes cloud storage more personal for its consumers last friday. Introducing the new redesigned My Cloud OS 3 operating system and Software Developer Kit (SDK) enables better app integration, along with new My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 personal cloud storage device with faster processing capability than previous generations.

My Cloud OS 3

WD’s My Cloud OS 3 has a user friendly interface and users can globally access their My Cloud via MyCloud.com which also enables file collaboration, comprehensive access management and a photos and videos gallery view.
The new WD Sync feature syncs data across multiple devices (PCs and notebooks), ensuring all files are available to users from almost any device. The new OS also features automatic camera-roll backup of images from smartphones and tablets and in addition to these the new OS has integrated Chromebook and Chromecast support.

My Cloud Device SDK and My Cloud API

WD has also unveiled My Cloud Device SDK and My Cloud API, which gives developers the power to develop new extensions and features within My Cloud ecosystem. The My Cloud Device SDK is based on the Docker™ open platform technology which is well known for providing an additional layer of abstraction and automation of operating-system-level virtualization which would ensure that developers can easily access and collaborate to create customized experiences. Plex, WD’s partner, has already started developing extensions and new features based on the new My Cloud SDK and APIs.

My Cloud Mirror personal cloud storage device (Gen II) features two hard drives which are by default set to Mirror Mode (RAID 1) which ensures content is stored on one drive and automatically duplicated to a second drive.
