Facebook to acquire WhatsApp for $19 billion [updated]

This news has spread like a wildfire and it deserves to be after all we are talking about two giant services used by everyone. Yes you heard it right. Facebook has entered an agreement to purchase WhatsApp for $19 billion in cash and stock.

WhatsApp as we all know is the popular realtime messaging service now available for every mobile platform whereas Facebook is the social network which I think won’t need any introduction. A document filed with the SEC confirms the big purchase. Facebook plans to operate WhatsApp as an independent service which would now better assist the primary motive of Facebook to bring the world together.
