WhatsApp has already brought several new updates this year but they are not stopping there. According to the new reports, Whatsapp is working on the new feature which detects suspicious links that are sent over chat. As per the report, the new update of WhatsApp version 2.18.206 has added suspicious link detection functionality. This feature works when it detects any link that contains unusual characters or trying to appear as another site. It exclusively targets phishing websites or sites with dodgy security measures or a ton of spam. A small sign with the red color code will appear written “Suspicious Link”. On further clicking the link it shows a second warning,“This link contains unusual characters. It may be trying to appear as another site.”. You can still access the website if you think its safe.
Although it’s just a beta feature as said by the reports. The link detection is done locally rather than being sent to WhatsApp servers. It’s still a mystery on the process of detecting the links.
The Facebook owned firm is also working on a major problem of spreading the hoax message on the WhatsApp Group. The firm is working with the local group as suggested by Indian Government to confirm the message before allowing it forward further. Still, its too a concept thought only, we’ll see what they’ll bring when the update rolls out.
