Yu Yunicorn with MediaTek Helio P10 chipset launched in India at INR 12,999

Micromax subsidiary Yu Televentures has launched its newest flagship smartphone, the Yunicorn. The device comes with a full metal body with a design that can be seen as a repetitive one but something that one can easily adjust with. The device features a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button that lets you unlock the phone in less than 0.2 seconds.

The phone also comes with a new software layer that YU calls Android On Steroids (AOS), that is more or less stock Android Lollipop but with a handful of features added on top. The Around Yu services platform is said to have received an upgrade to v2.0 that introduces a built-in digital wallet, called Udio. YU will also be introducing a video calling feature with doctors sometime next month.

YU YUNICORN specifications

  • 5.5-inch Full HD 2.5D curved glass display, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness
  • 1.8GHz Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with Mali T860 GPU
  • 4GBRAM, 32GB internal storage, expandable memory up to 128GB with microSD
  • Android 5.1 (Lollipop)

On paper, the YU Yunicorn seems like a capable smartphone that maintains a balance between hardware and software. The smartphone feels great in hands and looks really good, specially the Gold colour variant. While the build is a plus point for the Yunicorn.

The YU YUNICORN comes in rush silver, graphite and limited edition rush gold color and is priced at INR 12,999 for the first month. After that it will be priced at INR 13,499. It will be exclusively available from Flipkart through flash sale starting from June 7th. Registrations for the sale begins at 2PM today.
